The battle: Round one!

Is that big bastard out of range?
It seems that every time my buddy Andy and I play for 40k, he sets up and shoots first.
It seems that way because it’s the truth.
By some miracle, I somehow won the first turn, and by an even greater miracle, he did not seize the initiative.
I piled all of my squads into the ruined buildings at the back end of my side of the table, and he did pretty much the same on his side.
Crimson Fists:
Everyone stayed put except for my Landspeeders, which worked their way up the flank and ducked behind a ruined building.
Tactical squad One shot at the Knight with a Lascannon and missed. Tac squad Two shot at a predator with a Lascannon…and missed.
The Lascannon Devastators were too far away to do anything to anything, except maybe shout “For the Emperor!” or some such.
The Missile Launcher Devastators fired with pin-point accuracy on his scouts hiding in a building, direct hitting four times!
For all of that, only one lousy scout died.

Here come the bikers with their Cheese Grav Guns!
Iron Hands:
His Knight, Rhino, Predators, and bikers advanced.
The Knight fires the battle cannon at Tac squad Two, wastes four marines and damages two of my Landspeeders. He split-fires the Heavy Stubber at Tac squad One and gets nothing.
The bikers then shoot Tac squad One with Gravguns and kill two of them.
The Thunderfire cannon destroys my two damaged Landspeeders, and then his scouts return fire at my ML Devastators but do no harm.
The Master of the Forge ponders the nature of the Machine Spirit and does nothing. (He forgot about him)
Round two!

Here we are, fresh from Hell! Say, is that a Thunderfire Cannon over there?
Crimson Fists:
One Squad of Legion of the Damned Deep Strikes in, the other one gets delayed.
They promptly melt the Thunderfire cannon, but somehow the gunner survives.
The surviving Landspeeder moves out into the open, because screw it. It shoots at the Rhino carrying his Sternguard Veterans…and does nothing. The ML Devastators shoot one of his Predators into a pile of Junk, whilst everyone else misses.
Well, the LC Devastators hit the Knight, but his shields held, so that’s basically the same as missing.

Iron Hands:
The Bikers redeploy to face the Legion of the Damned who have materialized to their rear.
The bikers kill 3 Legion squad members, because I can’t roll an invulnerable 3++ save for shit.
His tac squad in the ruined building where the Thunderfire cannon used to be unload on the Legion from a few floors up…and do nothing.
The Knight moves up and unloads everything at the LC Devastators, killing two non-heavy weapon marines.
His scouts kill two ML Devastators, one of them being an actual missile launcher marine!
His Sternguard shoot at the Landspeeder from the safety of their Rhino, and somehow miss the thing.
The Master of the Forge shoots at the ML Devastators and misses.
In the assault phase, the Knight charges Tac squad One, and kills the shit out of three marines…but then he’s locked in close combat!

Round Three!

Hey Lucius, did you hear the laughter of thirsting Gods just now?
Crimson Fists:
The second Legion of the Damned squad finally shows up, shoots at the bikers and fails to do any damage.
The Landspeeder shoots its Multimelta at the Sternguard Rhino…and again comes up empty!
Tac squad two on the other hand finally pop open the Rhino like the tin can that it is and kill one of the Sternguard in the resulting explosion. Thank the Emperor for Lascannons!
The ML Devastators obliterate two more Sternguard, while the LC Devastators fry one of the bikers.
The Legion of the Damned, both squads, fail to dispatch anything whatsoever.
The Terminators, led by the Librarian (who can’t hurt the thing) charge the Knight and do two HP worth of damage!

Whaddya mean we can only hit the front armor? We’re looking at this thing’s asshole!
Iron Hands:
Predator number two backs up and turns to face squad two of the Legion, shoots and misses.
The Sternguard pile into some nearby ruins away from the destroyed Rhino, shoot wildly at the ML Devastators and miss.
The scouts shoot at the same squad and hit, but the Power armor saves! His Tac squad unload on Legion squad two and kill two. The bikers do exactly the same thing.
The Master of the Forge shoots at ML Devastators and misses (again)
The Techmarine gunner charges Legion squad one…and is ripped to pieces.
The Knight stomps a couple of terminators into a fine Ceramite paste.

Round Four, the final round!

These dead guys, how tough can they really be?
Crimson Fists:
The Landspeeder finally does something! It flies over to Predator two and gets a glancing hit, taking off a hull point! Money well spent! (right)
Unimpressed by this, Legion squad two turns towards Predator two and melts it into slag.
Mildly impressed by this, Legion squad one frags four more of his tactical marines in the building they’ve been fighting over.
Both Devastator squads fail to damage anything that they shoot at, and all of the Terminators (except the Librarian) die horribly in close combat, but they do manage to knock off two more hull points from the Knight for a total of four.
That is where we called the game on account of time. It was still anyone’s game at that point, as the Iron Hands had yet to go.
Woo! Next game will be 2000 points of Blood Angels vs Orks!
Whenever I get enough BA stuff painted, at any rate.
On the painting front, the first Tactical squad is finished, and now I’m working on a squad of Death company. Pictures to follow next time!
