Awaiting the Green Tide!

The Battle, round 1!

Since the Blood Angels finished setting up first, I decided to reluctantly take the first turn. Reluctant, because the Orks were almost entirely out of range of my shooting. My opponent Warboss Andy solved that problem by promptly seizing the initiative (shocking) and going first.

This helped me quite a bit, because I wasn’t tempted (or able) to move out of my position, which was set up specifically to deny his Kommandos from popping up in my backfield and causing havoc.

ORKS:

The Orks all advanced, while The Morkanaut with half of the Lootas with their Mekaniak rode along inside. The other half of the Lootas and the Mork shot at the Baal Predator, inflicting a few wounds on it, but doing no real harm.

Hell yeah, 8th edition! In previous editions, that fucker would’ve blown up like a firecracker!

P1030485

Get marchin’ ya skum!

Having no better targets, the Kommandos, along with Snikrot, popped up into some woods by the scouts, and promptly charged in (minus Snikrot, and 5 Kommandos who couldn’t make it) Two of them got cut down on the way, but the rest pressed home and wiped out the scouts to a man!

P1030479P1030480

Blood Angels:

Apart from the Death Company and Astorath, everybody stays put.

Both Whirlwinds shoot the advancing Slugga Ork boyz…killing one.

Predator shoots lascannons at Morkanaut and misses. The side-bolters kill a few Kommandos.

The Baal mows down a bunch of advancing shoota boyz, and the Red Devastators do the same!

P1030484

We are ACTUAL Blood Angels Devastaors, dammit!

The Blue Devastators wipe out the Kommandos that charged the scouts!

P1030481

Crimson Fists? Us? What makes you think that?

The Knight spreads the goodness around, shooting the Morkanaut, blowing Snikrot off of the map with the Avenger Gatling Cannon, and peppering a few boyz for good measure.

DC and ‘ol Astie drop down from the heavens to inflict some pain on the Lootas, by bolt-pistoling them to death! Since the intended target is now dead, they opt to charge a squad of 30 boys…and fail. Two of them get shot for their efforts.

This is gonna get real ugly in a minute…

Round 2

ORKS:

The Boyz keep advancing, except for the squad facing Astorath and the Death Company. They get moved back towards those doomed souls.

The Morkanaut drops off the remaining Lootas, who shoot at Astorath…and do zero damage!

P1030493

Time fer yer ta leg it, lads!

The Morkanaut then shoots at the Knight, knocking off a few points.

Then 29 boyz (minus 1 that gets shot going in) charge Astorath and 12 Death Company marines!

P1030494

Here they come!

The Orks get a stupid amount of attacks, something like 140 altogether…and still only manage to kill 7 DC marines! The Nobz accompanying them, however, just manage to wipe out Astorath, which causes the remaining DC to flee!

Blood Angels:

Red Devastators and the Baal Predator shoot the shit out of a squad of advancing Ork Shoota boyz. The other Predator shoots at the Mork and misses (again) then bolters the few remaining shoota boyz. Thank the Emperor for split-fire!

The Whirlwinds underperform again, killing a handful of Slugga boyz.

The Blue Devastators kill all of the remaining Kommandos save for two.

The Knight guns down almost all of the remaining Shoota boyz, missiles a Loota to death, and fails to damage the Morkanaut whatsoever!

P1030499

That out-of-focus yellow blob sure is heading this way in a hurry…

Round 3

ORKS:

The orks keep charging! (except for the boyz that chewed up Astorath and the Death Company; They’re now hopelessly out of position)

P1030498

Keep goin’ lads!

The Morkanaut and Lootas unload everything they’ve got on the Baal Predator…and fail to hurt it!

Blood Angels:

The Red devastators and Baal Predator  shoot the Slugga Boyz on the right, mowing down a fair number.

Both Whirlwinds combine to finally wipe the remaining Shoota boyz out.

The Blue Devastators and Knight unload on the Slugga boyz in the center, killing quite a few. The Knight also lobs some missiles at the Lootas, killing another one.

The Predator shoots at the Morkanaught and misses for the THIRD time. In order to make up for that error, it lights up the center Slugga Boyz for a few more casualties.

P1030505

‘Ere we go! The orks get ready to close!

Round 4

ORKS:

The Morkanaut unloads everything at the Blue Devastators, killing three marines.

The Lootas shoot the Baal Predator, doing a few more points of damage, hampering its effectiveness ever so slightly.

The center Ork squad charges the other Predator, takes a couple of casualties going in, but don’t manage to kill it.

P1030507

‘Ave some of dis choppa, ya humie skum! Why ain’t it dyin’ boss?

The remaining Ork Boyz try to charge the Baal…and fail. Then Warboss Andy tries a re-roll…and fails again! Bad news for the Bad Moons!

P1030503

“Charge! Nar? Whatcha mean, nar we ain’t chargin’?”

Blood Angels:

The hammer of Baal comes down hard indeed! The Red Devastators, whirlwinds, and Baal Predator unleash hell on the Orks that failed their charge! They get blown off of the table!

The Blue Devastators shoot up the Morkanaut, softening it for the eventual fury of the Knight!

The Knight unloads on the Morkanaut, and BOOM goes the Dynamite! The Mork explodes with a terrific ball of fire!

P1030508

I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!

The Knight also kills a Loota for good measure with a missile, then charges into the embattled Orks fighting the Predator!

That was pretty much the game!

The battle: Round one!

p1030314

Is that big bastard out of range?

It seems that every time my buddy Andy and I play for 40k, he sets up and shoots first.

It seems that way because it’s the truth.

By some miracle, I somehow won the first turn, and by an even greater miracle, he did not seize the initiative.

I piled all of my squads into the ruined buildings at the back end of my side of the table, and he did pretty much the same on his side.

Crimson Fists:

Everyone stayed put except for my Landspeeders, which worked their way up the flank and ducked behind a ruined building.

Tactical squad One shot at the Knight with a Lascannon and missed. Tac squad Two shot at a predator with a Lascannon…and missed.

The Lascannon Devastators were too far away to do anything to anything, except maybe shout “For the Emperor!” or some such.

The Missile Launcher Devastators fired with pin-point accuracy on his scouts hiding in a building, direct hitting four times!

For all of that, only one lousy scout died.

p1030319

Here come the bikers with their Cheese Grav Guns!

Iron Hands:

His Knight, Rhino, Predators, and bikers advanced.

The Knight fires the battle cannon at Tac squad Two, wastes four marines and damages  two of my Landspeeders. He split-fires the Heavy Stubber at Tac squad One and gets nothing.

The bikers then shoot Tac squad One with Gravguns and kill two of them.

The Thunderfire cannon destroys my two damaged Landspeeders, and then his scouts return fire at my ML Devastators but do no harm.

The Master of the Forge ponders the nature of the Machine Spirit and does nothing. (He forgot about him)

Round two!

p1030325

Here we are, fresh from Hell! Say, is that a Thunderfire Cannon over there?

Crimson Fists:

One Squad of Legion of the Damned Deep Strikes in, the other one gets delayed.

They promptly melt the Thunderfire cannon, but somehow the gunner survives.

The surviving Landspeeder moves out into the open, because screw it. It shoots at the Rhino carrying his Sternguard Veterans…and does nothing. The ML Devastators shoot one of his Predators into a pile of Junk, whilst everyone else misses.

Well, the LC Devastators hit the Knight, but his shields held, so that’s basically the same as missing.

p1030323p1030328

Iron Hands:

The Bikers redeploy to face the Legion of the Damned who have materialized to their rear.

The bikers kill 3 Legion squad members, because I can’t roll an invulnerable 3++ save for shit.

His tac squad in the ruined building where the Thunderfire cannon used to be unload on the Legion from a few floors up…and do nothing.

The Knight moves up and unloads everything at the LC Devastators, killing two non-heavy weapon marines.

His scouts kill two ML Devastators, one of them being an actual missile launcher marine!

His Sternguard shoot at the Landspeeder from the safety of their Rhino, and somehow miss the thing.

The Master of the Forge shoots at the ML Devastators and misses.

In the assault phase, the Knight charges Tac squad One, and kills the shit out of three marines…but then he’s locked in close combat!

p1030326p1030329

Round Three!

p1030330

Hey Lucius, did you hear the laughter of thirsting Gods just now?

Crimson Fists:

The second Legion of the Damned squad finally shows up, shoots at the bikers and fails to do any damage.

The Landspeeder shoots its Multimelta at the Sternguard Rhino…and again comes up empty!

Tac squad two on the other hand finally pop open the Rhino like the tin can that it is and kill one of the Sternguard in the resulting explosion. Thank the Emperor for Lascannons!

The ML Devastators obliterate two more Sternguard, while the LC Devastators fry one of the bikers.

The Legion of the Damned, both squads, fail to dispatch anything whatsoever.

The Terminators, led by the Librarian (who can’t hurt the thing) charge the Knight and do two HP worth of damage!

p1030333

Whaddya mean we can only hit the front armor? We’re looking at this thing’s asshole!

Iron Hands:

Predator number two backs up and turns to face squad two of the Legion, shoots and misses.

The Sternguard pile into some nearby ruins away from the destroyed Rhino, shoot wildly at the ML Devastators and miss.

The scouts shoot at the same squad and hit, but the Power armor saves! His Tac squad unload on Legion squad two and kill two. The bikers do exactly the same thing.

The Master of the Forge shoots at ML Devastators and misses (again)

The Techmarine gunner charges Legion squad one…and is ripped to pieces.

The Knight stomps a couple of terminators into a fine Ceramite paste.

p1030332p1030331

Round Four, the final round!

p1030334

These dead guys, how tough can they really be?

Crimson Fists:

The Landspeeder finally does something! It flies over to Predator two and gets a glancing hit, taking off a hull point! Money well spent! (right)

Unimpressed by this, Legion squad two turns towards Predator two and melts it into slag.

Mildly impressed by this, Legion squad one frags four more of his tactical marines in the building they’ve been fighting over.

Both Devastator squads fail to damage anything that they shoot at, and all of the Terminators (except the Librarian) die horribly in close combat, but they do manage to knock off two more hull points from the Knight for a total of four.

That is where we called the game on account of time. It was still anyone’s game at that point, as the Iron Hands had yet to go.

Woo! Next game will be 2000 points of Blood Angels vs Orks!

Whenever I get enough BA stuff painted, at any rate.

On the painting front, the first Tactical squad is finished, and now I’m working on a squad of Death company. Pictures to follow next time!
